Purpose
Our Virtual Literary Circle Project purposes' is to promote the use of digital tools and resourses for learning. Our author study will focus on elements of literay works of Robert Munchs' collection.
We chose the author Robert Munch because he writes about and exaggerates real life situations. He is a funny author uses and incorporates high frequency words throughout his stories. The three books we decided to look at “Stephanie’s Ponytail,” “I have to go” and “The Paper Bag Princess.”
We were able to view the stories on Tumblebooks.com. It is an interactive e-library that is available to schools for a subscription price. This will definitely help ELL’s because the stories are read to them and there is slight animation. There is also an option with language choices: English, French, and Spanish. It is customizable for K-3 but can also be extended and differentiated for 4th grade. Each story has a choice for an accelerated version. This really highlights the need for differentiation for each student.
There they also have activities that correlate with each story. For example, in “The Paper Bag Princess” there is a game where the student needs to match the sentence to the correct picture. For the story, “I have to go” there is a word search game where the students type in their responses. They can also print out a word search puzzle to work on later. For “Stephanie’s Ponytail” the students can take a quiz to test their comprehension skills.
Having a Virtual Literary Circle will enhance and encourage student participation during "Book Club" and in partnership work.
